del.icio.us is no longer delicious - the end

It’s not only sad that delicious is shutting down but for those of us who acutely used the services to store our bookmarks over the years have a nice problem on our hands.

If you use delicious then I would suggest that you stop adding any new bookmarks to it and download all of your existing bookmarks using one of the following two methods.

The first method is quite easy and more suitable for average users.

  1. Go the delicious.com website.
  2. Settings page.
  3. Go to the “export / backup bookmarks” page link under the bookmarks heading.
  4. On this page just leave the default settings and click the export button.
  5. It will download all of your bookmarks in a HTML file to your computer.

Now for those of you who are more tech savvy and want your bookmarks to be in a XML format so that you can input them to whatever system you want.

  1. Go to the api.delicious.com/v1/posts/all URL.
  2. Enter your delicious username & password when asked for.
  3. Your browser should show you an XML based list of all the bookmarks for your account.
  4. Ones the XML file loading completes just save it to your local computer.

Now that out of the way it’s time to hunt for a replacement or maybe just maybe if I ever have enough time make one myself.
